In 30 seconds- One agent per job: research, pricing, the page, getting found, first customers.
- The code is public. You can read it, change it and keep it.
- It works on your business, not only on your code.
- It runs on your own AI plan: from about $20 a month. Mine is $100–200.

## What does an open-source AI team do?

It does the work a small team would do. Each agent has one role and one job.

| Role | What it does | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Research | Finds real people complaining about a problem this month, with links | Pick the problem worth solving |
| Pricing | Compares similar products and shows your break-even | Pick the price |
| The page | Writes and builds your landing page, checks it on desktop and phone | Say yes or ask for changes |
| Getting found | Gets you into Google, AI answers and the right places to list your product | Submit and post |
| First customers | Finds people who show the problem now and drafts the message | Write to them yourself |

**You approve every step.** The agents read, draft and propose. Sending, publishing, paying and deploying wait for you.

They also share one folder of notes about your business: the idea, customers, decisions, numbers. Sales logs a reply, and the next morning support already knows. That is what makes it a team and not a pile of prompts.

## How is it different from AI coding agents?

Most open-source agent teams for Claude Code are engineering teams. They plan, code, test and review. Useful. I use some of them, like [Superpowers and Anthropic's feature-dev](https://bootstrappedmakers.com/blog/best-claude-code-plugins-for-founders).

But a working product is not a business. Mine sat at $0 for four months with the product finished.

| | AI coding agents | Open-source AI team for a business |
|---|---|---|
| Works on | Your code | Your whole business, code included |
| Roles | Planner, coder, tester, reviewer | Research, pricing, design, growth, sales, support, numbers |
| Ends at | A feature that works | A product people pay for |
| Knows | Your repo | Your customers, prices, decisions and numbers |

## What does an AI team cost to run?

The software is free. You pay for the AI plan underneath, to its provider.

| Setup | Per month |
|---|---|
| A basic Claude plan that runs Claude Code, plus free tiers of the other tools | from $20 |
| My setup today: Claude Max, the rest on free tiers or startup credits | $100–200 |

On my setup that comes to about $5 a day. Start on the basic plan. Move up when you hit the limits.

## What is an example of an open-source AI team?

Note: I built this one, so weigh that.

[Bootstrapped OS](https://bootstrappedmakers.com/bootstrapped-os) is free and open source under MIT, on [github.com/PancheI/BootstrappedOS](https://github.com/PancheI/BootstrappedOS). It has 21 agents in six departments: strategy, finance, product and engineering, growth, sales and customers, operations. A chief of staff runs them and asks you at every step. It runs in Claude Code.

I run my own payments company this way. 114 days, 1,033 hours, 3,313 agent runs. AgentaOS went from $0 for four months to ~$10k MRR in 60 days. The free repo is that system, cleaned up for any one-person business. My company-specific skills stay private.

In a terminal with Claude Code installed:

```
claude plugin marketplace add PancheI/BootstrappedOS
claude plugin install bootstrapped-os@bootstrapped-os
```

Then type /day0 and answer five questions.

 **Built a product, and nobody has paid yet?**That is the step Bootstrapped Makers is for.[See membership →](https://bootstrappedmakers.com/pricing)

## Questions founders ask

### Is an open-source AI team free?

The software is. You still pay for the AI plan it runs on, to its provider: from about $20 a month on a basic Claude plan. Mine is Claude Max at $100–200 a month.

### Do I need to code to use an AI team?

No, but you need to be fine typing a few commands in a terminal. The business roles work in plain words. You answer questions and approve each step.

### Will the AI team send emails or post for me?

Not in Bootstrapped OS. The agents draft and propose. Sending, publishing, paying and deploying wait for your yes.

### Is it only for SaaS?

No. It works for services, digital products, courses and consulting too. The engineering part is optional. Research, pricing, getting found and first customers work the same.
