What is an open-source AI team for a one-person business?

An open-source AI team is a free set of AI agents, one per business job, that run on your own machine, share one knowledge base about your business and ask you before anything goes out.

By · Tallinn · Checked 22 October 2026

In 30 seconds
  • One agent per job: research, pricing, the page, getting found, first customers.
  • The code is public. You can read it, change it and keep it.
  • It works on your business, not only on your code.
  • It runs on your own AI plan: from about $20 a month. Mine is $100–200.

What does an open-source AI team do?

It does the work a small team would do. Each agent has one role and one job.

RoleWhat it doesWhat you do
ResearchFinds real people complaining about a problem this month, with linksPick the problem worth solving
PricingCompares similar products and shows your break-evenPick the price
The pageWrites and builds your landing page, checks it on desktop and phoneSay yes or ask for changes
Getting foundGets you into Google, AI answers and the right places to list your productSubmit and post
First customersFinds people who show the problem now and drafts the messageWrite to them yourself

You approve every step. The agents read, draft and propose. Sending, publishing, paying and deploying wait for you.

They also share one folder of notes about your business: the idea, customers, decisions, numbers. Sales logs a reply, and the next morning support already knows. That is what makes it a team and not a pile of prompts.

How is it different from AI coding agents?

Most open-source agent teams for Claude Code are engineering teams. They plan, code, test and review. Useful. I use some of them, like Superpowers and Anthropic's feature-dev.

But a working product is not a business. Mine sat at $0 for four months with the product finished.

What does an AI team cost to run?

The software is free. You pay for the AI plan underneath, to its provider.

A basic Claude plan that runs Claude Code, plus free tiers of the other toolsfrom $20
My setup today: Claude Max, the rest on free tiers or startup credits$100–200

On my setup that comes to about $5 a day. Start on the basic plan. Move up when you hit the limits.

What is an example of an open-source AI team?

Note: I built this one, so weigh that.

Bootstrapped OS is free and open source under MIT, on github.com/PancheI/BootstrappedOS. It has 21 agents in six departments: strategy, finance, product and engineering, growth, sales and customers, operations. A chief of staff runs them and asks you at every step. It runs in Claude Code.

I run my own payments company this way. 114 days, 1,033 hours, 3,313 agent runs. AgentaOS went from $0 for four months to ~$10k MRR in 60 days. The free repo is that system, cleaned up for any one-person business. My company-specific skills stay private.

In a terminal with Claude Code installed:

claude plugin marketplace add PancheI/BootstrappedOS
claude plugin install bootstrapped-os@bootstrapped-os

Then type /day0 and answer five questions.

Questions founders ask

Is an open-source AI team free?

The software is. You still pay for the AI plan it runs on, to its provider: from about $20 a month on a basic Claude plan. Mine is Claude Max at $100–200 a month.

Do I need to code to use an AI team?

No, but you need to be fine typing a few commands in a terminal. The business roles work in plain words. You answer questions and approve each step.

Will the AI team send emails or post for me?

Not in Bootstrapped OS. The agents draft and propose. Sending, publishing, paying and deploying wait for your yes.

Is it only for SaaS?

No. It works for services, digital products, courses and consulting too. The engineering part is optional. Research, pricing, getting found and first customers work the same.
