Can you run a business with Claude Code, not just write code?
Yes. Claude Code can do your research, pricing, pages, outreach drafts, support drafts and weekly numbers from one folder on your machine. It must not send, pay or deploy on its own. You approve those.

- Claude Code reads and writes files, browses and runs tools. That is enough for most business work.
- It drafts. You send, pay and deploy.
- My day: one morning message, I approve by number, ~$5 a day.
- I run a payments company this way, alone.
What can Claude Code do for a business?
Everything that ends in a draft, a file or a number. I run AgentaOS, my payments company, this way. 114 days, 1,033 hours, 3,313 agent runs.
| Job | Claude Code does | You do |
|---|---|---|
| Research | Finds people who show the problem this month, with links | Pick who to talk to |
| Pricing | Compares similar products, works out your break-even | Pick the price |
| Pages | Writes and builds the landing page, checks it in a real browser | Approve the deploy |
| Outreach | Drafts the message to each person | Send it yourself |
| Support | Drafts a reply to every customer message | Read it and send |
| Numbers | Pulls signups, payments and drop-offs into one weekly view | Pick the one change |
What must Claude Code not do alone?
Three things: send, pay, deploy. Anything that leaves your machine and reaches a person, your money or your live site.
My agents wrote 109 emails in those 114 days. I sent every one of them myself. A wrong email to a customer costs more than the time you saved.
Set it up so the agent stops and asks. In Bootstrapped OS sending, publishing, paying, deploying and deleting are blocked or ask you first, and the gates come with tests.
What does a day look like?
- One morning message. What happened since yesterday, and what needs me. Numbered.
- I approve by number. I reply
go 1 3. Items 1 and 3 go ahead. The rest wait. - The agents do the work. Drafts, pages, research, the numbers. Each one writes a line to the shared notes when done.
- I do what only I can. Talk to customers. Decide. Send.
It costs me about $5 a day. My plan is Claude Max, $100–200 a month. A basic Claude plan that runs Claude Code starts at $20.
My morning message comes to my phone through my own private bot. That bot is not part of the free repo. In Bootstrapped OS the chief of staff gives you the same brief inside Claude Code.
What do you need to start?
| You need | Why |
|---|---|
| A Claude plan that runs Claude Code | The AI doing the work. From $20 a month |
| One folder for the business | Notes on the idea, customers, decisions and numbers that every task reads first |
| Roles with one job each | Research, pricing, sales, support, numbers. Vague agents give vague work |
| Approval gates | So nothing sends, pays or deploys without you |
You can build this yourself with plugins. My list: the best Claude Code plugins for founders. Or take the whole setup. Note: I built Bootstrapped OS, so weigh that. It is free and open source under MIT, 21 agents in six departments. What it is, in plain words: what an open-source AI team is.
Questions founders ask
Do I need to be a developer to run a business with Claude Code?
No, but you need to be fine typing a few commands in a terminal. Research, pricing, drafts and numbers are plain-word work.
How much does it cost to run a business with Claude Code?
From $20 a month on a basic Claude plan. Mine is Claude Max at $100–200 a month, about $5 a day.
Should Claude Code send emails for me?
No. Let it draft; you send. My agents drafted 109 emails in 114 days and I sent every one myself.
Is Claude Code only for software businesses?
No. Research, pricing, outreach, support and numbers are the same for a service, a course or a digital product.
